Bookbinding Workshop Junkie

How is it that even though I own 20-some books on bookbinding and artists books that I STILL have to take every bookbinding workshop I can get my hands on? I'd have to say it's because I love to make books with other people. And I have a perverse pleasure in taking a really hard class that kicks my so-you-think-you're-an-artist butt.

Every workshop I've taken, I come home with something I probably wouldn't show off. I wouldn't keep coming back if I hadn't learned a valuable lesson some years ago: in a workshop you make models, not masterpieces. Once I really "got" that, it freed me up to just have fun. And that's what we all want a workshop to be, don't we? Sure, I want to learn something new and I don't take workshops that teach something I already know, but the biggest reason I'm there is to immerse myself in the joy of creating with others. It's money well-spent.

Thanks to all those great instructors out there!
